About Us...

Artwork by Wendy Clark

Shawn and Lori Malloy started an alpaca farm, Sunshine Alpacas, in Maine with four female suri alpacas in 2003. Shortly after, Lori started to dye the alpaca fleece and learned how to hand spin and wet felt.  The Malloy’s bred and showed their award winning animals and continued to work outside the farm in their professional careers. In May of 2006, they bought a state-of-the-art fiber mill and founded Flaggy Meadow Fiber Works.   Lori left her job to be on the farm and operate the mill full time.  The mill allowed them to take raw fleece from their animals and process it into yarn, roving and felt.  This quickly led to processing other types of fiber for farms nationwide.  Shawn left his job to work the mill in November 2006. In September 2008, they moved the farm and mill to Kentucky.

Today, they operate the fiber mill from their farm in beautiful Springfield Kentucky. Services provided include washing, separating/dehairing, roving in center-pull bumps (no more messy loose roving in a bag!), batts, felt and of course yarn including cored and rug yarn. All finished skeins are washed to remove the spinning oils so that you don't have to fuss with it!  No fiber to process?  We can help - just visit our new on-line mill store for our fabulous North American Suri and Huacaya alpaca blend yarns, roving and more!

The Malloy’s are developing their own products, including the Surino® yarn and roving line and Flaggy Meadow Wear clothing line.  They recently started a new collaboration called Royalty Fiber Farm. This partnership has allowed the Malloy’s to develop a sock line featuring alpaca and silver technology for antibacterial and antifungal properties.  The alpaca fiber is purchased from US family farms and the socks are made in the USA.

It is a venture which takes Kentucky another step forward in its vision of a new farm economy and the future potential of the natural animal fiber industry.  They continue to assist other producers and artisans in marketing natural fiber products and service even the smallest fiber livestock producer.  This process allows traceability from farm of origin to the end user.

Our mission is quite simple, to provide creative processing solutions for fiber farms and artisans, and make the finest natural fiber products available on the market.
